Portland Wedding Photographer for Sincere, Refined Love Stories
A Professional Observer, If You Will
I'm Maria, a Portland-based photographer with over 15 years of experience and a particular affection for the fleeting, often overlooked details that make our lives so vibrant and unique. I like to think of photography as a form of translation, I'm here to write down your day in photographs, so that every time you return to your album, you can immerse yourself in the extraordinary day shared with your favorite person and your community. My recipe for this is a blend of documentary observation and editorial sensibility. I prefer being everywhere without drawing attention to myself. And while you're my main focus, I also capture everything you don't get to see: the look in your parents' eyes as you say “I do,” your college friends doing shots and cheering you on, or your best friend telling their plus-one they knew this was exactly what would happen the moment you two met. All those little moments you might otherwise never get to see.

Absolutely, and I actually encourage it. A portfolio shows you the photographs I'm most proud of, but a full gallery gives you a much better idea of what to expect throughout an entire wedding day. You'll see portraits, family photographs, candid moments, the ceremony, reception, and everything that happens when the lighting isn't quite as cooperative as we'd like. I'm happy to share examples of real weddings in settings similar to yours.

I've photographed weddings in pretty much every kind of weather Oregon has to offer. Overcast skies can give us wonderful light for portraits, while dark venues and evening receptions call for a different approach. I'll look at your venue, sunset time, and timeline beforehand so we can plan accordingly. Sometimes that means moving portraits earlier, finding a sheltered location, or bringing out additional lighting. The weather doesn't have to be perfect, but I'd rather be prepared than hopeful.
-
Not necessarily. I've photographed plenty of weddings on my own, and for many celebrations, one experienced photographer is absolutely enough. A second photographer becomes particularly useful when you're getting ready in different locations, have a large guest list, or want coverage of things happening simultaneously. We can also arrange for someone to join us for just part of the day. I'll give you my recommendation based on your actual schedule rather than automatically suggesting the more expensive option.
-
For a typical eight-hour wedding, my photography starts at $4,000. Shorter celebrations generally cost less, while additional coverage, a second photographer, or travel may affect the total. I'll put together a clear estimate based on your plans, so you'll know exactly what you're booking before signing anything. You don't need to schedule a call just to find out whether we're remotely within the same budget. But if you want to - absolutely do!

Start with the inquiry form below and tell me a little about yourself and your plans. I'll confirm my availability, answer your questions, and put together a few options to choose from. Once you're ready, I'll send over the agreement and invoice. A signed contract and 50% retainer officially reserve your date, with the remaining balance due the day after your wedding. We can work through the photography timeline and other details as your plans come together. I’ll be in touch as frequently as you need me.

Before the wedding, we'll talk about how much direction and involvement you'd like from me. Some couples prefer a mostly documentary approach, with me blending into the background, while others appreciate more guidance and art direction.
If you don't have a strong preference, I'm pretty good at reading the room. I'll step in when something needs organizing, help you feel comfortable during portraits, find good light, and offer suggestions when I think they'll make a difference. The rest of the time, I'm paying attention to what's happening around me and photographing things as they naturally unfold.
My goal is to give you the photographs you hired me for without making the entire day revolve around taking them.
